Closing the office for December? A shutdown and January reopening cleaning plan

Before you close

• Empty fridges and kitchenettes, and leave the fridge door ajar if it's switched off.
• Empty every bin, including the ones under desks.
• Clear desks so surfaces can be wiped.
• Run a general clean of bathrooms and floors on the last day.
• Agree access for cleaners while you're closed: keys, alarm codes, who to call.

Before you reopen

• Deep clean: kitchens, bathrooms, floors, skirtings, light switches and door handles.
• Glass: shopfronts, office windows, glass partitions and entrance doors.
• Dust: weeks of closure leave a film on every flat surface.
• Air out: open windows and run the aircon on fan to clear stale air.

Shopfronts in the holiday season

Retailers who stay open through December get the most foot traffic of the year. A clean shopfront is the cheapest display upgrade there is. Consider a weekly or fortnightly glass clean through the season, especially in beachfront Strand and central Stellenbosch.

Booking tips
